So how was it for some Aussies on their travel experiences thru IRE?

Stefan - Sweden – Crops/Machinery – Gibson WA
  • Made a great team with my host family
  • Very different to cropping in Sweden
  • Learnt to understand ‘’Aussie’’ slang

  • for me an excellent learning experience

  • cultural differences & different farming techniques
  • fishing & shooting in my own time or ice hockey & baseball on weekend
  • 13 states of America in 3 weeks holiday, amazing different animals
  • had a solid base, brilliant way to start my overseas experience
  • got paid some good cash to travel on, few other expenses

  • being part of another family worked well for me
  • just so many different things to do after being stuck at home
Matt - SA to Ireland for beef & sheep
  • saw so many places on short weekend trips
  • really worked for me as the first time away from Aus
Joclyn - WA to Denmark for dairy
  • really broadened my uni training, leant so much new stuff about animal production
  • to help survive, don't forget to take to vegemite!
  • 'was interesting training cows for robot milking!
  • pretty tough to start with but 'learned so much about myself

  • girls just loved the accent! Oh yeah!
  • away from friends & family so 'really got to want to do it
  • two countries is the way to go, just great contrasts
  • being away longer also had my ideas develop heaps more

  • got lots of great new friends & just saw heaps, awesome!
  • weekends for traveling then holiday in Europe after placement
  • such a great way to learn a lot while seeing the world plus getting some cash
  • 'reckon everyone just needs to get out & do it ~ do it now, don't wait
