IRE work with our network of worldwide partners to offer placements across the following industries provided you have the right level of experience and training.
- Agriculture: broad-acre cropping (wheat, barley, canola, lupins, oats, peas), some irrigated cropping, dairy, sheep, pigs and beef.
- Horticulture: nursery, cut flowers, fruit orchard, vegetables and tropical fruit.
- Agri-home: working inside the home and out on the farm.
- Equine: breeding studs and station placements.
- Apiary: Queen bee and honey production.
IRE works hard to match you with a host in your placement choice so you get the best experience possible.

Requirements:
- You need to be single and aged between 18 and 30.
- Have at least one years experience in your placement choice or been studying in your chosen field
- Be able to understand and communicate in English well – this is very important for you to get the best out of your stay in Australia
- Hold a current drivers license for at least a year and have an international driving permit.
- Be fit and healthy and open to new ideas and cultures.
- Commit from 4 to 12 months away from home.
- Hold comprehensive travel insurance for the duration of your trip. IRE will organise travel insurance for you.
- Purchased a return air ticket or pay $1000 bond
IRE welcomes trainees three times a year – in March, July and September to fit in with our farming seasons.
Placements are for a minimum of 4 months but can be extended through mutual agreement. Second placements can also be arranged allowing you to experience another farm industry and part of Australia while you are here. Maximum stays are 12 months. Most placements are family based or living in accommodation on your hosts property however some may be shared accommodation with other trainee’s or employee’s.
IRE with our partners, provide you with an application and visa assistance, a screened and quality placement and a handbook before departure We try to ensure that your host or a member of IRE is there to pick you up at the airport when you arrive. We hold a 2 - 3 day orientation seminar to prepare you for your time in Australia which allows you to meet other trainees from all over the world! You will receive full assistance and support from our office and network, an allowance set by the ACW Board including full board and food, tax benefits if applicable, a placement list showing contacts for other trainees all over Australia and a certificate of participation in the IRE Program on completion.
