IRE offers a great way for you to travel and see the world, via our network of world wide partners - arranging places for you in rural industries abroad.

IRE Placements are different to the normal employer-employee relationship, as you live and work with a family enterprise in a rural community. This work experience - cultural exchange allows you not only to work in a different environment and learn different techniques, but to immerse yourself in a different culture and make friends for life. You choose what, when and where!

placement opportunities exist in:

Canada, USA, Ireland, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and France

placement categories:

The type of placements IRE and our partners can provide will depend on the country, the type of place, the time of year & your level of experience or training. Most placements are family based but some are independent living often with other youth.

  • Agriculture: broad-acre or more intensive systems for crops, beef, dairy, sheep or pigs. Placements can be made in USA, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Norway, France, Holland, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland or the UK.

  • Agri-home: working inside the home and out on the farm.

Some unique and specialized placements may also be available, so please Contact IRE to discuss what you are looking for in this exchange experience.

requirements:

Different countries may have special requirements, but generally you should:

  • Be Single
  • 18 - 30 years of age
  • Fit, healthy and open to new ideas and cultures
  • Have at least one year's practical experience in your placement choice
  • Have a driver's license for at least a year & an International Driving Permit
  • Hold comprehensive travel insurance for the duration of your trip.
(IRE can arrange this insurance for you at discounted rate.)

Time of departure is flexible, but most Aussies leave late March to fit in with the Northern hemisphere.

Placements are usually for 5 - 7 months in one country, but this can depend on season, climate, industry etc. It is possible to have 2 different places in two different regions or countries in 12 months or longer, allowing you to see more of the world, meet different people and experience different cultures. Shorter placements can also be available, it is up to you!

Visa's can be up to 18 months in the US and up to one year in Canada and Europe.

With IRE and our partners, you get complete assistance with the application and visa process, a screened and carefully matched placement, airport meeting, orientation, supervision and support as needed throughout your stay. Your host will provide you with on the job training and a family environment and will involve you with the local community.

IRE can help you at a key time in your life: to think about your future, see places, experience different cultures, make lifelong friends, build your career, if you need a change of scenery or just want to do something different.
